New Delhi Two final year MA students of Jamia Millia Islamia waiting for their results were in for a shock when they were asked to sit for an examination all over again.
When Mumtaz and K Veeraiah went to their department, K R Narayanan Centre of Dalit and Minority Studies, to find out what had happened, they were offered no explanation.
They later learnt that their answersheets had disappeared and that no FIR had been filed.
On Saturday, one of them wrote a letter to the Vice Chancellor complaining about the lack of accountability.
He wrote that he had contacted the director of his centre but was given no satisfactory reply and that the Controller of Examinations had told his classmates that under the circumstances, appearing for the exams afresh was the only solution.
The students have been asked to sit for their exams on Monday. They had given the exam for their optional paper “Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy,” in the first week of May.
Speaking to Newsline, Veeraiah, who wrote the letter, said that the loss of papers have rendered him ineligible for appearing for his M Phil or Ph D selection.
The incident has been complicated further with a change of guard in the department on Friday.
Professor Azra Razzak, the former director, refused to comment on the issue saying that it is now under the purview of the new director, Mushtaba Khan.
However, when Newsline contacted the new director, he said that he had just taken charge and is yet to get details on the matter.
Meanwhile, the students are once again preparing to appear for the paper they had they took two months ago.
“What is the guarantee that after giving this exam, my papers will not be lost the second time?” asked Veeraiah.
